THE THOUGHTFUL OPENING OF THE HEART

It is helpful when one is moving peacefully through life to observe all aspects of being and live them harmoniously. When drawn to the morning meditation as roots of the lily pad are drawn to the depths of the nourishing waters, it is well to be aware of what is occurring on one's path. Most particularly, being present within the living experience allows us to see necessary tasks, to observe the time of preparation as having its value and those aspects of life seemingly not at all associated with coming to meditate as being within the continuance of all that is and is not.

PRESENCING

There are those times
when the ordinary,
seeing, hearing, touching
and all....
the taste and smell
of whatever is

rests upon our conscious nature
lightly and with ease.
The morning comes upon us
and the brightness of the day
the ordinary day
comforts us.

These, we say
are good times.
We are not distracted
by the agonies of the world
neither do we ignore them.

Our own needs
and the concerns of others
are alive within us.
Yet they are alive within
our perceptions
and do not strike us down.

Living the truth of what is
speaks of what we do not know
more fundamentally than
understanding which seems
to tell us a completed version
of life's perspective.

Knowing of unknowingness
is an antidote of sorts
to the time worn slogan
"what you see is what you get".

It is a comfort that stays
the inclination to become absorbed
in the acceleration of life's ways
distorted by attention
to the movement of the moment.

For the moment enjoys movement
as a background in the unfolding
of what is. Yet the unwitting participant
in life's deceptive aberrations
sees the movement and not the moment
most prominently

or expects or wishes that to be so...
that the flying by of what is
is where it's at.
With this practice as an habit
one becomes a moment hopper

dangling all the things to do
before one's eager or resistant eyes
wanting more or less of what is
than unfolding, as it is,
offers.

As the practice continues
as matter in motion,
the motion mattering most
effort must be made
not only to maintain the speed

as a vision of reality
which offers identifiable reinforcers
for being of this nature
and dissatisfaction
for not maintaining it

but as well---
the substance of life
not being seen as with its presence
must be created as illusion

creating odd modes of satisfaction
as separate and despaired
from the harmonious blending
of what life offers.

Seeing this allows our attention
to move towards presencing
as the fact of matter
and to enjoy these moments

though what they may bring
may not be pleasurable.

Skillful coping
and intelligent strategies
offer us means of survival
not requiring desperation.

The thoughtful opening of the heart
does not offend
neither does it take offense.
